Artist's Description

Two White Rhino, also known as the Square-lipped Rhino, drinking from a small waterhole, reflecting in the water. The Rhino is a highly endangered species, although the White Rhino is doing relatively well. The other and even more endangered African Rhino is usually called Black Rhino, but these names do not refer to the color. It's probably based on a miscomprehension of the Dutch word 'weide', which does not mean 'white' (as the English settlers thought), but 'meadow'. White Rhino are social animals living in open areas (weide), while the black or point-lipped Rhino is a solitary animal of the bush.
