Portrait of a young male impala. The impala is arguably the most beautiful of the African antelopes. Antelopes are often confused with deer, but they are not even closely related. Deer have antlers, antelopes have horns.

About Johan Elzenga

Johan Elzenga

Johan W. Elzenga is a freelance photographer and writer and also editor of two photography magazines in his home country, the Netherlands. His primary interests are nature, wildlife and travel and his favorite destinations are East and Southern Africa. In the past 30 years Johan has traveled to Africa at least once a year, giving him an intimate knowledge of the animals and the people of this fascinating continent. His second favorite destination is the barren landscapes of south/western part of the USA, which he also visits with a high frequency. Johan has an extensive knowledge of digital photography and has written many books on that subject. He lives with his wife Ine in a small village south of Amsterdam.
